Technology recently made a big jump when it comes to weather radar covering Connecticut. The National Weather Service's WSR-88D radar has been scanning the stmosphere on a horizontal line.

The new polarimetric radars or dual-polarization radars scan horizontally and also vertically giving a much clearer indication of what kind of precipitation is falling and many other important weather processes going on within the scan area. This is done by emitting energy pulses up and down plus side to side.

Meteorologists are excited about the information that can be gathered with this upgrade. Especially with giving advance warning with severe weather situations.
