No, I am not talking about the one you tickle. I'm talking about strange weather phenomena during a thunderstorm.

St. Elmo's Fire. Mother Nature's static electric discharge.

I picture her going around touching things just to see the sparkle. ("Maaaa! She's TOUCHING ME!" I don't think you can put Mother Nature in time out though.)

St. Elmo's Fire is a luminous ball of static electric discharge. You know, like when your cat decides to investigate under the blanket at night and you hear these little crackling sounds only to duck when a sparkling cat comes flying out. Or you rub your feet on a carpet and touch someone on the nose. If it is dim enough in the room their nose will light up for a moment lol. (one problem, they usually do it back when you are not expecting it)

St. Elmo's Fire happens during thunderstorms and a lightning strike can happen after it... so don't stick around if you see it! It can dance on the top of a building, a ships mast... anything tall that it can 'run up'.

Is that thunder I just heard? Wait, how tall are you? Yes, it can even show up around your head!

Remember, St. Elmo's Fire may not be dangerous, but deadly lightning can follow! Like I said before, don't hang around if you see it. Take necessary precautions such as "When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!!" You really are not safe outdoors. When my son played football, the first flash of lightning had everyone running for cover. Safety first, you can't play if you're dead.

There is a great article that I 'favorited' titled "Safety During Lightning Storms" by Katherine Gill. Read it.

If you have seen any wild weather phenomenon, let me know ok?

See you soon!
