The worst of the rain is over, but we are not quite done with the unsettled weather just yet.

The image above is the GFS forecast model, showing the 500mb heights and vorticity at 18z (2pm) on Tuesday.

It's clear to see that we still have a very big influence from an upper-level low pressure system and its associated broad trough in the eastern United States. The upper low, and the surface low that brought all of the rain and wind on Sunday and Monday is moving up to the northwest, the opposite direction that weather usually moves. Because of that movement to the northwest, the unsettled weather will remain in place on Tuesday. Although there will be more sunshine mixed in with the clouds on Tuesday, some of that wrap-around rain could still bring us a few isolated showers, and we will also keep a strong westerly wind.

Wednesday will be improving even more, but again, with that storm still nearby, a few more isolated showers are not out of the question.

The best chance of rain this week will actually be on Thursday. If you look on the map, north of Minnesota and North Dakota, in northern Manitoba, Canada, just west of Hudson Bay...you can see an "x"...that is a vorticity max or disturbance that will swing down and drive a rain system through here on Thursday.
