It’s important to listen to or read the marine forecast before you head out boating this summer.

A marine forecast will give you information on wave heights, wind speed and directions, and water temperatures. Important advisories such as a Small Craft Advisory or Gale Warning are also issued  which can help you make a decision if its safe to be out on a particular day. In addition Special Marine Warnings are issued that can highlight rapidly changing weather such as thunderstorms, gusty winds, or dense fog.

A marine forecast is available at weather.gov/marine or by listening to NOAA Weather Radio. Most phones have an weather radio App as well.
