Uncus Pond in Lyme, CT is a very quiet place, located inside the Nehantic Forest. The pond is 69 acres just big enough to make it a worthwhile trip. I went on a cloudy and a little cool weekday morning, and there was only one other person on the pond. I saw many birds and even a few turtles sitting on a log. It was a very peaceful environment to be in!
There are about 4 houses on the right side of the pond at the beginning, but the left side is completely forested and further down the right side becomes forested. There is a picnic area that can be accessed from the pond as well.
There is also another pond called Norwich Pond that is located nearby inside the forest. I checked it out, it's small 29 acres but it is another option.
Directions-
I-95 to exit 70, left on rte. 156 for almost 4 miles, right turn into Nehantic State Forest. Follow dirt road for 1 mile turn towards Uncus Pond Launch
