Very hot weather today and tomorrow!

High pressure builds in across Connecticut at all levels of the atmosphere. The subsidence (sinking air) with high pressure and associated inversion will trap pollution near ground level, so low air quality today and tomorrow likely.

The heat index will be higher than the temperature today as dew points climb through the 60s. The heat index forecast for this afternoon ranges from 94 to 1-0-2. That is serious for the possibility of heat related illnesses sneaking up on you. Drink plenty of water.

I think the shoreline record of 93 today will be a close call, but likely stand. The record at Bradley Field of 96 could be tied or broken today with full sunshine this afternoon. Another record breaker likely tomorrow.

Try to keep the shades and blinds closed at your home and business to keep interior temperatures lower. Also, if your car starts to over heat and you can not get to a safe area, turn the heat on...this will lower the coolant temperature.

My other concern for this week will be the intensity of thunderstorms for Friday. As the frontal surface approaches, it will be interesting to see how much heating gets going through the mid-late morning Friday. LI forecasts are for -4 to -5 around Connecticut with some cold advection at 500mb. Could be some hailers and wind damage producers that grow midday through the evening.
