6:18 p.m.
Most of the severe weather is over, but a couple of strong thunderstorms are now passing through southwest CT. These storms will feature heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning.
The rain will taper to showers across the state over the next few hours and most of the thunderstorm activity should be done by sunset.

5:52 p.m.
Severe t-storm warnings have been expired across the state, still have a severe thunderstorm watch for the whole state (with the exception of Litchfield County) until 9pm. We also have a flash flood warning for Southwestern Tolland and East Central Hartford Counties until 7:30. Check out the live radar here:
5:11 p.m.
A big line of storms is moving across the state. Right now we have a few big boomers moving into Eastern CT. A line of storms is approaching Salem, up towards Lebanon, into Windham and into Chaplin. We've also got a tornadic thunderstorm that's showing signs of rotation that could move into Stamford/Greenwich. Also another line of storms from Oxford into New Britain. At this point, it doesn't look like a tornado will be an issue, but strong winds, hail, and very heavy rain will be the concern for the upcoming hours. We'll keep you informed so keep checking back frequently for updates. We also have a severe t-storm warning for southwestern Litchfield County. Potentially 60 mph winds!
4:06 p.m.
A large area of thunderstorms continues to pass from west to east across northern Connecticut. Right now, flooding rainfall is the biggest concern, due to the fact that the storms keep moving over the same area. Damaging winds and hail have also been reported and continue to be a threat into the late afternoon.
More storms will begin to fire this afternoon and the stage is set for some potentially severe weather. The biggest risk involved is torrential downpours, which could cause flash flooding, as well as gusty winds. A few isolated storms, especially late this afternoon or early this evening, could pack a punch with cloud-ground lightning and hail.
3:33 p.m.
Storm #1: A new severe thunderstorm has popped up and this will move into the area that just got hit, Kent and Sharon, over the next half hour or so.
Storm #2: This storm remains a severe thunderstorm and is about to move into downtown Torrington. Hail and damaging winds are still expected.
Storm #3: A severe thunderstorm is quickly flaring up and has already caused localized flooding. Strong winds, small hail and dangerous lightning is expected with this storm.
Storm #4: A strong thunderstorm is passing in and around the Waterbury area.
3:25 p.m.
Storm #1: Severe thunderstorm moving through Cornwall, Goshen and Warren is about to move into Litchfield and downtown Torrington. Strong winds and hail are still expected with this storm.
Storm #2: Another storm is moving very slowly and showing some weak signs of rotation over Manchester, East Hartford and Glastonbury. The biggest threat from that cell is flooding, but some damaging winds are also possible.
3:05 p.m.
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS thunderstorms are moving through Sharon and the next target is Cornwall. These areas may experience large hail and damaging winds through 3:45 p.m. Salisbury is on the edge of the storm, with heavy rain and lightning. Kent may also get brushed, especially the northern portion of the town.
2:45 p.m.
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS thunderstorms are moving into NW CT, with the town of Sharon in direct target through at least 3:15 p.m. Large hail and damaging winds will likely accompany this thunderstorm. Take cover immediately if you are in or around Sharon, Salisbury and Kent.
2:35 p.m.
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS thunderstorms are approaching Litchfield County, especially the town of Sharon. These storms have a history of large hail and damaging winds. Take cover if you live in Sharon or nearby Salisbury. At one point, radar indicated possible rotation with this storm. (possible tornado)
2:00 p.m.
A strong thunderstorm over Stratford may have small hail, as indicated by radar. Take cover if you are in the vicinity, including nearby Milford. This storm will cause heavy rainfall and lightning as well.
Another storm is slowly moving towards NW CT, but that cell will not immediately impact CT.
1:30 p.m.
A strong thunderstorm developed around Yonkers and is heading towards the extreme southwest tip of CT. This cell may clip southern Greenwich heavy heavy rain and frequent lightning between now and 2 p.m.
1:10 p.m.
A cold front is still positioned well to our west, but some isolated thunderstorms are already firing ahead of it. A cell popped up just south of Hartford shortly before 1 p.m. and that shower/storm has crossed the River and moved into Glastonbury at 1:10 p.m.
The heat waves goes out with a bang as some thunderstorms start moving in.
