This date back in 1989 holds a very important place in local weather history. Three tornado touchdowns occurred in Connecticut. Two in Northwestern Connecticut and one in the Hamden area.

The strongest tornado was in the Hamden area estimated at EF4 strength. The Highwood area of Hamden was destroyed. Over 40 injuries reported.

There are many folks with personal stories posting on my facebook page. A common report relates to a very dark sky that turned green prior to the wild wind.

The touchdown near bantam turned deadly when a tree fell on a person camping.

This historic tornado is a great reminder to take tornado warnings seriously when they are issued.

Please feel free to post your personal experience from that day below. We would appreciate it! -Gil
