Since we will all be reading and writing a lot of stories about this week's heat and humidity, I figured I would jump right ahead to what happens after the heat-wave....an amazing weekend.
More on that in a second...first, I do need to touch on this week a bit. Our heat wave may have unofficially begun on Sunday with that nasty humidity, but nobody hit 90°. Even today, while we topped out at 92° inland, the shoreline did not get out of the 80s and the humidity was back in check. But Tuesday and Wednesday will be the heart of the heat-wave with 90s expected across most of the state and heat index numbers up near 100°.
A strong cold front will come through late Wednesday with storms that could be strong to severe. The front is a slow mover and may not clear out until later on Thursday which means we could still see a few lingering showers & storms on Thursday. But by Friday, amazing weather moves in.
The image above is the surface map at 12z (8am) on Saturday and it's a gem. The cold front that comes through Wednesday and Thursday keeps pushing to our south as nice, refreshing high pressure builds in from the north.
This means plenty of sunshine Friday through the weekend and into early next week. It also means that on Friday, the heat and humidity will be gone and it will remain nice through Sunday, maybe just a touch more hot & humid each passing day.
As I said tonight on News 8 at 5pm to Darren and Sonia...people sometimes ask my advice about the weather so I'm giving out a free-bee to everyone today...if you have an extra vacation day or two that you were holding on to...take it Friday or Monday. This will be a great weekend. Although we've really been lucky this year with our summer weekends, we still seem to always have that humidity or that "slight chance of a shower." But this weekend won't be like that - should be perfect from start to finish.
