The weekend is looking beautiful, and it looks even better in comparison to the awful weather we've dealt with in the past week! Temperatures around 100 degrees, oppressive humidity, severe thunderstorms, rain showers, and below-average temperatures were all part of our workweek. Here are the details on the pleasant change in our weather!
A disturbance in the jet is predicted to swing through tomorrow (according to NAM) or Sunday (according to GFS). This is in association with a weak cold front; you can see it on the surface analysis above. The energy (in the form of thunderstorms) from this front is expected to miss us to the south, and the 700mb progs show relative humidity values of only 10-20% through the weekend. So, we're keeping the forecast dry through the weekend. 850mb temperatures differ a bit between the models on Saturday; the NAM and Euro keep things a bit cool (around +8C) at 850mb, but the GFS is milder, with 850mb temps around +12C. Either way, I expect a few cumulus clouds to pop up tomorrow afternoon due to the thermal instability and lingering moisture near the surface from today's rain.
Sunday is probably the pick of the whole week, with a zonal flow aloft, very low RH values at 700mb, and comfortable 850mb temps of around +12C.
