We saw a few isolated showers and storms today, but the rain will become much more widespread tonight and Wednesday. While we can't rule out a few stronger storms, a severe weather outbreak is definitely NOT expected. And while we could see some heavier downpours, a widespread flooding event is also NOT expected. Rainfall totals should top out at about 1" on average, but some isolated spots could see a bit more than that.
The image above is the surface map at 9am. Notice four features near Connecticut...a warm front, a cold front, an occluded front and an area of low pressure that acts as the "triple point" to separate these three fronts.
While we can see scattered showers & storms at any point on Wednesday, I think the first round of some heavier stuff comes through at about 4am to 10am as seen above. This is when a warm front will push through and the triple point will be nearby.
During the day, the humidity will surge with the warm front to our north and we might get some breaks of sunshine, but still keep the scattered rain in the forecast.
Then late in the afternoon into the evening, the cold front still has to push through and this looks to be the focus of another round of potentially heavier showers & storms.
The rain should taper off on Thursday morning and leave us with pleasant weather for most of Thursday and Friday before a weekend cold front brings rain and cooler temps.
