While the weekend will not be perfect, there has been some improvement in the timing of the rain, and one of the reasons why is the track of Hurricane Leslie a thousand miles away.

The image above shows the surface map at 2am Sunday morning as a cold front is forecast to come through Connecticut.

With the front back to the west on Saturday afternoon, it should be breezy, warm and very humid. By mid-afternoon the cold front approaches and that could begin to spark off some strong to severe storms into the evening. But the best chance of rain will be overnight into Sunday morning with the actual front. Some heavy downpours are possible.

The rain should taper off from west to east on Sunday morning and by the afternoon, if the forecast remains on track, cooler, drier air will move in as the sunshine gradually returns. And this front will give us a taste of fall, especially by Monday, with refreshing air from Canada and even nighttime lows back into the upper 40s by Monday and Tuesday.

So what does this have to do with Leslie? The track of Leslie continues to push farther and farther east. Not only is this great news for the east coast with absolutely no chance of the storm getting close. But with the storm going east, it allows this cold front to push through quickly. Had Leslie gone farther west, it would have slowed down the works and this cold front could have gotten held up all day Sunday and even into Monday.

So...this forecast could once again change, but right now, as Leslie goes east, it allows the cold front to come through quickly, and that means the weekend should begin dry and very humid and end up dry and more fall-like.
