The stage is set for a potential late-season severe weather outbreak tomorrow.
Setup:
A strong low pressure system and its associated cold front are forecast to swing through the Northeast Saturday evening and overnight. Strong winds aloft, combined with wind shear and daytime heating may be just the spark that is needed to kick off some strong to severe thunderstorms.
Potential:
A line of potent thunderstorms is possible late Saturday night and into very early Sunday. Strong, damaging winds will be possible in this line of storms. Also, isolated supercell thunderstorms could develop ahead of the main line of storms.
The SPC has highlighted the entire region under a "slight" risk for severe thunderstorms. The categorical percentage is 30% for most of the state, which is relatively high for this time of the year. The severe threat diminishes somewhat as you head further east and approach the shoreline.
