Our perfect week ended with another perfect day on Friday, but a cold front will be coming through tonight.

The image above is the updated surface map showing conditions at 2am Saturday morning. At this point, the cold front and the rain showers are just beginning to creep into Western Connecticut.

Notice where the rain (green outline) is...behind the front. When we see precip on the cooler, drier, more stable side of a cold front, the rain tends to be much more gentle. When you see the precip ahead of the front in the warmer, more-humid air, there can be much more volatile weather. So, any rain we see should be light and scattered.

Looks like the light rain could begin in Western Connecticut anytime between about midnight and 3am and overspread the rest of Connecticut until about 8am or so when it ends from west to east. If you live in far Eastern Connecticut, the light showers might hold on until about 10am, but for the entire state, as the day goes on, the clouds will gradually clear and give way to sunshine with a cooler, drier northwesterly wind.

Sunday is looking great too with plenty of sunshine but highs only in the lower 70s and lows by Monday morning as cold as the lower 40s.

The next significant weather event will be on Tuesday with an autumn rain storm (even though it's still summer) that could bring some steady rain, a few storms and gusty winds. We need the rain and it's been a while since we've had a good, all-day rain event...the type of rain that can really get soaked up by the thirsty ground and reservoirs.
