For those of you who love summer, you will enjoy the first half of the weekend. For those of you who love autumn, you will enjoy the second half of the weekend. Or maybe you're like me and love autumn and summer equally...well then this is gonna be a killer weekend for people like us.
The image above is our microcast computer model with the surface fronts at 2pm on Saturday. At this point, a big warm front will sit to the north and the cold front will still be back to the west in New York, Pennsylvania and down into the Virginias. Winds will be out of the south which will mean highs near 80° and higher humidity. Early fog should give way to sunshine on Saturday, but the clouds will be rolling back in late in the day.
The cold front should be approaching Western Connecticut by 9pm to midnight and should be east of Connecticut by 3am Sunday morning. This would place the best chance for storms across Connecticut between about 9pm and 3am, but a few scattered storms could fire up as early as late afternoon, mainly in Western Connecticut, but most of the state should be dry until after 6pm and more like about 9pm.
A few storms could be strong to severe with heavy downpours and strong winds, but a widespread severe weather event does not look likely.
With the strong autumn front quickly racing east by Sunday morning, we should have plenty of sunshine all day, but a strong northwesterly wind will keep highs only in the 60s and that wind will make it feel even colder.
Lows on Monday morning could drop into the lower 40s, but by Tuesday morning we could have the coldest temps of the season so far in the upper 30s in some places.
Fall officially begins Saturday at 10:49am. Have a great weekend!
