Today is the first official day of fall! It’s a season of tremendous variability of both summer temperatures and winter temperatures , as well as getting rain and even snow. In addition the sun sets become increasingly earlier. Let’s take a look at some highlights.
The Temperature average for today, Sept.22 is a low of 51 and a high of 71. A month from now on Oct. 22 the averages decreases to a low of 39 and a high of 60. By Dec. 21 the average is all the way down to a low of 21 and a high of 38!
The ranges in temperatures from the record highs to records lows in quite dramatic during the fall. The record high for today is 91 degrees while the record low is -18 for Dec.21st, That’s a range of over 100 degrees!
Typically Late September and October days do not feature too much precipitation. The days are know to have the most clear skies out of anytime of year. During November and December rain and even snow are more likely.
Usually snow holds of until later November. However last year in late October we had the big Noreaster with some areas getting over 1 foot of snow, which was the most snow ever recorded so early in the season! Also in 2009 we had a light covering around mid-October.
Finally, sunset times also do vary greatly, as today’s sunset is at 6:48 pm, while on Dec. 13 it will be at 4:17, and by Dec. 21 it will actually be at 4:20.
