The weather has been getting cooler as we are in now officially in the Fall Season. This is the time of year to head out in the woods and begin to enjoy the fall foliage!
According to the CT DEEP that foliage season typically runs from the first week of October in Far Northeast and Northwest CT to about the first week of November along the Southern Coast and 1-95 area.
I have been hiking across the state for many years throughout the state. Here is a list of my favorite places to check out Fall foliage!
Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden
A 1.5 mile tower trail brings you to the Stone Tower with an elevation of 739 feet. From there you are able to see the Quinnipiac River Valley an as far south as Long Island Sound!
Talcott Mountain State Park, Simsbury/Avon
A 1.25 mile tower trail brings you the top with great views along the way of the Farmington Valley. A tower know as Hublein Tower is open on weekends, allowing a better perspective.
Gillete Castle State Park, East Haddam
An observation deck on the back of the castle offers a view of the CT River as well as the forested hillside. In addition there are short trails throughout the park.
Mohawk State Forest, Cornwall/Goshen
You can drive to the top of to get a view of the Litchfield Hills. The elevation at top is about 1,600 ft.
Pootatuck State Forest, New Farfield
If you take trail from Squantz State Park you enter into the Pootatuck State Forest. At the top you can see Squantz Pond and Candlewood Lake, along with the surrounding hillsides!
