Enhanced "rainbow" infrared imagery of Rafael

Hurricane Rafael is passing well east of New England today.

The storm, which remains a Category 1 hurricane, is moving rapidly northeast.

Details:
As of 11 a.m., Rafael had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and was moving towards the north-northeast at 35 mph. As the storm is interacting with cooler water, it is undergoing extra-tropical transition. This means the storm will likely not be considered tropical for much longer.

Affecting the U.S.
Even though the storm is well east of the U.S. mainland, increased surf action is being observed along the Northeast coastline. As a result, Small Craft Advisories are in effect from eastern New England down into the mid-Atlantic coastline.
