The NHC has upgraded Sandy to a Hurricane near the island of Jamaica.

After strengthening as a Tropical Storm, winds have now reached Hurricane force.

11 a.m.
Hurricane Sandy has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and a central pressure of 973mb. The storm is about to move over Jamaica and will then cross over Cuba later tonight and into early tomorrow morning. Fluctuations in strength are expected as the storm interacts with both warm water and land.

Forecast:
The official NHC forecast cone has shifted notably to the northwest, bringing the storm to a position between Cape Hatteras and Bermuda by Sunday night and Monday. There is still a level of uncertainty with where the storm will go beyond that.
