Sandy: Stronger Wind than Irene

Irene caused a lot of wind damage, but Sandy has the potential to be much worse.
Winds with Irene were generally between 20 and 40 mph, but gusts reached as high as 63 mph in Bridgeport.
Sandy's winds:
The above map estimates how high peak wind gusts may go, compared to how strong they were with Irene.
Most areas will have winds that may peak 15 to 20 mph stronger.
New Haven only gusted to 40 mph with Irene, but this storm could bring gusts to 70+ mph.
Result:
Sandy will likely cause more damage and power outages. The only good thing is that there are less leaves on the trees this time around, but once winds gust into the 60-70+ mph range, widespread tree damage is inevitable.
This map is also a conservative estimate, as Gil says winds could gust as high as 70 mph inland and up to 90 mph near the shoreline.
