First off, I still can’t believe that he has left us! A genius, hardworking, selfless and passion driven human and my idol. After battling cancer for almost 2 decades, his time came, at only 66 he was gone which is way too early.
From the first time I saw him on TV to being able to spend a whole afternoon helping him build his forecast, I can’t even imagine where would be without those experiences. If there is any reason that won’t stop me for being a meteorologist it would be because Dr. Mel always said, “fulfill your dreams and work will be like play.” I am hoping to become an on-air meteorologist some day and I not only have the most respect for weather, but even more for the one of a kind, Dr. Mel.
I am currently a storm spotter for the NWS Skywarn team, started my school’s TV production class where I will have my own weather show and much more, I am a weather fanatic and hope to follow in his footsteps. Long live, Dr. Mel!
