The bitter chill continues!

These temperatures are the coldest in recent memory. it's the duration of this cold weather that impressive! I expect the very low temperature theme to continue through the first half of the weekend! The wind is driving wind chill values quite low and the wind will be around through Thursday evening. The lowest temperatures could occur for parts of the state Friday Morning as the wind dies off and high pressure crests over the Northeast. A clear and calm combo should make for a good radiational cooling set-up right at sunrise Friday.

Now...let's talk about the snow forecast for later Friday and Friday Night. Yesterday the range was from a few inches on the GFS to 10" on the ECMWF. Well, the ECMWF has shifted south and now gives our area less snow. The GFS is only bringing light amounts through. Now the NAM is in range through early Saturday with not much at all. Two shortwaves need to merge closer for us to end up with more snow. My thoughts now are for a Dusting to 3" event. With cold temperatures, it doesn't take much moisture to produce these amounts.

The atmosphere remains cold with wind too on Saturday post storm This will develop quickly at sea...but too far from Connecticut for much snow.

Moderation seems likely Sunday-Monday. There could be a round of light snow/flurries with the warm air advection Monday. Then temperatures go up each afternoon through Wednesday.
