The SPC expects snowfall rates to reach 1" per hour across all of Connecticut by 4:45 p.m.
Low pressure is rapidly intensifying east of the Delmarva region. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are currently impacting coastal New Jersey. Intense precipitation along and south of Long Island is going to overspread the state from south to north later this afternoon. With cold air in place, most areas will see all snow. Any mixed precipitation along the shoreline will quickly change back to all snow this evening as cold air is drawn in from the north.
If you have any travel plans, it would be a good idea to take care of those ASAP. Heavy snow and increasing winds will cause poor visibility on the roadways. Conditions will only get worse into the evening hours as snowfall rates will likely average 1 to 3" per hour for several hours.
