Showers and a few thundershowers are moving through the state ahead of a cold front. Some of the showers may drop briefly heavy rain, gusty winds and even some small hail or graupel.

This afternoon:
-Showers move from west to east across the state.
-A few showers may be accompanied by small hail or graupel, heavy rain and gusty winds.

This evening:
-Rain showers end, possibly mixed with some graupel across the higher elevations.
-Gusty winds early, then calmer conditions after midnight.
-Rapidly falling temperatures, falling below freezing by Tuesday morning.

The freezing level is relatively low, at about 4,500 feet, or close to the 850mb level. Any heavier convective showers may be able to bring down some small hail or at least graupel, mainly across interior Connecticut. Sharply cooler temperatures are expected tonight as strong cold advection allows for chilly air to filter in.
