This is what people in the Windsor/ East Windsor area do not want to hear after an EF-1 tornado did in fact touch down yesterday afternoon causing wingspread damage. But yes, once again we are under a slight risk for tornadoes today. The SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has put most of the East Coast under a 2% chance for seeing a tornado, which is actually not that high.

We have seen our area being placed under a 5% to even 10% chance for a tornado, which is a lot higher that the 2% we are under right now. The catch is that I have been looking at the SPC Mesoscale Analysis, it is pretty clear that we have some of the needed upper air patterns for a few severe storms that may drop a few weak and brief tornadoes. The CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) is not all that impressive, but does indicate some potential energy in the atmosphere for any storm to become severe. The Bulk Wind Shear is also a bit enhanced. Now granted we won’t have to worry about the sun since it will likely be mostly cloudy all day, but if we do see any breaks in the cloud-cover this can mean troubles are ahead when it comes to the strength of the storms. And take yesterday for example, very limited sun if any in most areas and we had one confirmed tornado in CT with another one pending, all without the sun’s help.

So the best thing to do is check back with WXedge.com throughout the day for updates on the tornado potential. If anything breaks I can promise you that Meteorologist Gil Simmons will be breaking in for a live weather update on air with Meteorologist Quincy Vagell updating this site as well. Remember, midnight or mid-day; trust WXedge.com for up to the minute breaking weather coverage. Stay safe!
