Morning of July 11, 2013 a Thunderstorm developed over the Hudson Valley and strengthened over Westchester and southern Fairfield County as it slowly moved East.

.91" of rain fell here in 40 minutes. The Closest the Lightning got was 1/2 mile away. Generally Lightning and Thunder was 5-10 seconds apart for at least 10 minutes. Strangely enough, winds didnt gust past 15mph the whole time. But there was wind damage nearby including a tree down on I-95 South for the morning commute. Lightning also struck a few homes.

Image above is a 3D view of the cell. The red blob is 50+ dbz and its reaching 20,000 feet and getting wide. Whenever you see a core like that you know some intense weather is happening.

Here's 4 radar images I captured from nothing to Severe within 45 minutes.

Here's another 3D look at the cell. Right image is facing west. Notice the low clouds over the sound but the cell was blossoming right over southern Fairfield county and cloud tops reaching heights of 50,000 feet. Greens are light to steady rains. Yellows are 35dbz which were peaking around 30,000 feet. Reds are 50dbz which were getting to about 20,000 feet.
