Pattern Shifting Towards Fall?

The CPC released their extended forecast and they are expecting below normal temperatures to filter down into much of the country.

The image above is a forecast from the Climate Prediction Center, that includes the probability of above or below normal temperatures for August 17th to the 21st.

We've certainly been in a much warmer than period overall this entire year, including most of the summer. In New England, August tends to stay warm, but there is a lot of variability as the average high temperature for Bradley Airport shifts from the mid-80s early in the month, to down into the upper 70s by the end of the month.

Why are we warm now and what can we expect over the next 5 to 10 days?
