I strongly advise everyone to avoid unnecessary travel this evening.

Whether it's flooding and storm surge along the shoreline or downed trees and power lines inland, there's no good reason to be out and about.

I tried to drive around downtown New Haven tonight, but many roads are littered with debris, closed and impassable with water. With the water levels rising at the time, many of the roads were not even blocked off and I literally almost got stuck.

What I saw:
Many intersections are completely under water. The water in the Ikea parking lot was up to the entrance...I-95 is closed near the vicinity of Long Wharf and if water isn't the story, trees and power lines and blocking other roadways.

Please stay safe and avoid traveling tonight. Water levels will slowly ease during the day on Tuesday and by staying off the road, emergency and power crews can do their job to get things fixed up as soon as possible.

These two clips are just a small sample of what's going on. Many other communities have been hit much worse.
