Why are snow tires important?

Snow tires are designed with rubber compounds that are very soft. This keeps the tires pliable in the cold weather and also results in better traction on snow and/or ice.

When temperatures vary from warm to cold, tires expand and contract. Snow tires, because of their design, are able to handle the cold weather better than standard tires.
